Meet Nettie Rose

Meet voice actor Nettie Rose, a 25-year vocal coach turned VO talent specializing in commercial, character, corporate, and audiobook narration at RealVOTalent.

Meet Nettie Rose

Talent Spotlight: Nettie Rose

Some voice actors find the microphone by accident. Nettie Rose found it because she refused to sit still. With over 25 years of vocal coaching under her belt, a pandemic lockdown was never going to keep her quiet. Instead, it became the launchpad for a voice acting career built on deep expertise, bold choices, and a love for the craft.

From Vocal Coach to Voice Actor

The shift happened during COVID, when the world went quiet but Nettie's ambition didn't. She had spent decades building a vocal coaching business, and when lockdowns threatened to stall that momentum, she saw an opportunity rather than an obstacle. "I wanted to stay in my industry," she says, "so voice acting and narration was a clear and desirable choice for me."

She bought a solid microphone, fired up Pro Tools, created her ACX profile, and got to work. No months of deliberation. No waiting for the perfect moment. Her very first voiceover job was an audiobook memoir, and from there, she never looked back.

A Foundation Built on 25 Years of Vocal Mastery

What sets Nettie apart from many voice actors is the depth of training she brings to the booth. She holds a BA in Music Education, Vocal Performance, and Vocal Pedagogy. That training goes beyond performance. She understands how the voice works, how to protect it, and how to shape it for any purpose.

"Being my own boss is beyond amazing," Nettie says, "and to do what I love to do and expand into voice acting is so gratifying." That quarter-century of coaching experience gives her a rare advantage: she understands vocal technique at a level most performers never reach. Whether she's voicing a commercial, building a character, delivering corporate content, or narrating an audiobook, that foundation shows up in every read.

The Craft Behind the Performance

Nettie describes her voice in three words: Trustworthy. Bold. Engaging. Each one reflects an intentional process she brings to every project.

"I love getting a new script and gauging what I can do to deliver the specs given and go beyond expectations," she explains. "I break down the most important aspects and make choices to reach the intended audience."

That approach reflects something Nettie feels strongly about: voice acting runs deeper than performance alone. There's script analysis, audience consideration, technical delivery, and the business side of managing sessions, turnarounds, and client relationships. The performance listeners hear is just the final layer of a much deeper process.

Projects That Stay With You

Nettie's proudest work spans a range that speaks to how she's grown. Most recently, she hosted a webinar about The Voice, Vocal Health, and Your Business, drawing directly from her decades of coaching expertise. She's also preparing to launch a vocal health podcast with colleague Jennifer, set to debut next month. These projects sit at the intersection of her two passions: voice performance and vocal education.

The Sci-Fi Romance That Tested Everything

Every voice actor has that one project. For Nettie, it was a sci-fi romance audiobook that pushed her to her limits and rewarded her for every ounce of effort.

"It was crazy long, but sooo rewarding that I miss the work," she recalls. "It was labor intensive, but the characters were so near to my heart." The book's author, in his 80s, was thrilled with the finished product, and that response made the entire grueling process worthwhile. It's the kind of project that reminds you why you chose this career in the first place.

And then there was the lighter side of the work: a faux announcer contest where she had to ad-lib who would win a special "encounter" with a makeshift bachelor-type guy. "Multi rounds with music and SFX," she laughs. The range between a heartfelt sci-fi romance and a comedic fake game show says everything about Nettie's versatility.

Beyond the Mic

Nettie's life outside the booth is full. On the business side, she writes scripts for demos, handles marketing, coaches vocal students, and makes music. Away from work, she goes for walks, plays video games with her kids, paints on rare occasions, sings her heart out, and fits in coffee and lunch dates between maintaining a household and visiting family. It's a full life, and it fuels the authenticity she brings to every session.

Why the Human Voice Still Matters

In an industry facing real questions about the role of AI, Nettie's perspective is clear and grounded: "The rawness of vulnerability and human emotion. Also, the pondering of words to convey our intent and meaning in real time."

That conviction comes from 25 years of studying the human voice and knowing exactly what makes it irreplaceable. No algorithm can replicate the split-second decision a skilled voice actor makes when interpreting a line. No synthetic voice carries the weight of real emotion.

Nettie also has a message for the industry at large: "The ROI is much more in the client's interest when it comes to hiring a professional human voice actor than seeking out low rates or AI options. When you invest in your talent, then your brand and business benefits greatly. It is worth paying a little more for such a great and noticeable return."

Working With Nettie

For clients considering Nettie for their next project, her advice is straightforward: "Listen to the quality and desirable performance that will best suit your brand and a reliable talent that will make sure your project is accomplished in an efficient way with time-sensitive consideration and the highest standards that focus on you and your audience."

Trustworthy. Bold. Engaging. Three words that describe her voice, and three words that describe what it's like to work with her.
